The views and concerns of our stakeholders are vital to informing our future priorities and directions.

Our ongoing engagement with customers and stakeholders tells us that people want to talk about electricity, especially when it comes to how much they pay. Recently, we’ve seen this conversation grow to include the changing energy mix, greater emphasis on demand management, and empowering people through access data with smart meters and information portals.

We recognise that these conversations, as well as those about investments in the network and maintaining our poles and wires, underpin our regulatory proposal and Tariff Structure Statement. We are opening up the conversation about the way we model our energy future and determine our pricing proposal to improve outcomes for our customers, stakeholders, partners and the community.

Our customer insights

Gaining early insights to the awareness, values and attitudes of our customers was an important first step to mapping out our shared energy future. It provides an informed starting point for our planning and ensures that the views of our customers are considered in our 2021-2025 regulatory proposals.

We have embarked on a research and engagement program, Energised 2021-2025. To date we’ve listened to and learned from:

  • Interviews with a selection of 50 commercial and industrial customers
  • 21 focus groups with residential customers
  • Survey of about 1,800 residential customers
  • Survey of about 600 small businesses.

Our focus for this preliminary work canvassed energy knowledge and literacy, energy values (what consumers value most in relation to electricity), future energy scenarios (and related preferences), energy behaviours (businesses and households), viewpoints on network performance, price and affordability, connections and overall communication and engagement.
